Description
YOU WILL BE SAILING AN RS2000 - YOU MUST DRESS APPROPRIATELY
Candidates should be able to complete tasks such as those listed below, sailing at all times with awareness and prove they can sail in a controlled and confident manner. They must demonstrate consideration, preparation, clear communication, a thoughtful approach, and effective execution at all times.
Course Content
During the assessment you will be asked to complete the following:
- Sail around a triangular course
- Sail a tight circular course
- Sail a 'follow my leader' course
- Pick up a Man Overboard Dummy
You may be asked to complete some of the following:
- Sail without a rudder, or with the tiller on a loose elastic
- Lee Shore landing and departure
- Anchor or pick up a mooring
- Come alongside a moored boat
- Recover a capsized dinghy and sail away
During the week there will be a variety of session, both practical and land based. The week will provide opportunities to lead practical sessions, assist in the running of sessions and give a short talk.
You will be asked to give a ten minute talk on a topic below - please pitch your talk to the level indicated in brackets.
- Cold Shock
- International regulations for prevention of collisions at sea (Basic Skills Level 2)
- Weather forecasts and their relevance to dinghy sailors (Basic Skills, Level 2)
- Tides and their relevance to dinghy sailors (Basic Skills, Level 2)
- How a sail works (Start sailing, Level 1)
- Knots (up to Seamanship Skills)
