Description

YOU WILL BE SAILING AN RS2000  -  YOU MUST DRESS APPROPRIATELY

Candidates should be able to complete tasks such as those listed below, sailing at all times with awareness and prove they can sail in a controlled and confident manner.  They must demonstrate consideration, preparation, clear communication, a thoughtful approach, and effective execution at all times.

 

Course Content

During the assessment you will be asked to complete the following:

  • Sail around a triangular course
  • Sail a tight circular course 
  • Sail a 'follow my leader' course
  • Pick up a Man Overboard Dummy

You may be asked to complete some of the following:

  • Sail without a rudder, or with the tiller on a loose elastic
  • Lee Shore landing and departure
  • Anchor or pick up a mooring
  • Come alongside a moored boat
  • Recover a capsized dinghy and sail away

During the week there will be a variety of session, both practical and land based.  The week will provide opportunities to lead practical sessions, assist in the running of sessions and give a short talk.

You will be asked to give a ten minute talk on a topic below - please pitch your talk to the level indicated in brackets.  

  1. Cold Shock
  2. International regulations for prevention of collisions at sea (Basic Skills Level 2)
  3. Weather forecasts and their relevance to dinghy sailors (Basic Skills, Level 2)
  4. Tides and their relevance to dinghy sailors (Basic Skills, Level 2)
  5. How a sail works (Start sailing, Level 1)
  6. Knots (up to Seamanship Skills)
