James grew up sailing on Sydney Harbour and first arrived in the UK in 1989. He moved to Cardiff in 2002. where he first joined CBYC sailing a 22ft Scanper called Essen and chartered a J80 for his final season in 2008 where he sailed in the J80 world championships in Kiel amongst other major events. James also set up Sailability Cardiff at this time which he subsequently assigned over to Cardiff Watersports.
James returned to Australia in 2008. For the next ten years sailed Dragons (incl the 2012 world championships in Melbourne) and his sports boat Emma Peel which he brought over to Cardiff upon his return in 2018. He won he Shanghai Cup in 2019 and has also sailed with other members of the cruiser racing fleet including sailing the 2019 Fastnet with Tony Rayer on Ca Va.
James initially trained as an accountant and worked for 14 years as a finance manager in Telecoms. He has also worked as a general manager in medical software in Australia and also owns businesses in social care (UK) and invoice finance (Australia).
