Visitors arriving by road via the M4 motorway should exit at Junction 33 and follow the signs for the Docks, exiting at the junction for Penarth. At the traffic lights at the bottom of the slip road keep in the outside lane and move across to the centre lane at the next set of traffic lights on the roundabout. Stay in this lane and follow the road around to the next set of traffic lights (under the flyover). At the next set of traffic lights go straight on towards Penarth, and after approx 150 yards (before the next set of lights directly in front of you) take the left fork and move into the far right hand lane (Morrison’s garage will be on your left and Toys R Us on your right). At the next set of lights turn right, then straight on at the next set of lights (past Toys R Us on your right and the Cardiff International Pool on your left). At the roundabout take the first turning left, travel along the road approx 100 yards and just after the entrance into the car park for the pool, turn right, onto a tarmac road which has metal fences either side (large white notice for Cardiff Bay Yacht Club) Carry on along this road until you come to a set of large grey gates. You are now at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club. On the right hand side of the gate there is a call button you will need to press to talk to a member of staff who will let you in.SATNAV: CF11 0JS takes you to the swimming pool (turn left at the roundabout then right at the ice rink)
From a position between Ranie and South Cardiff Buoys, make for the Outer Wrach Buoy, then follow the buoyed channel to the Barrage lock. The Cardiff Bay Barrage infrastructure is complete. At present the Bay is generally impounded, but is drained from time to time. For current information on the depth of water over the lock sills, call the lock master on 029 2070 0234 or call 'Barrage Control' on Ch 18. See the Locking Instructions .
As you leave the locks, the cubhouse is visable dead ahead, the visitor pontoon is on the seaward side of "A" Pontoon and is the first pontoon you encounter.
