Application for Membership of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club

The Club offers its members a wide range of facilities both nautical and social, with a fully piled pontoon system. However, please note that currently there is over a 12 month wait for gold pontoon berths at the Club. If your membership is approved, should you require a berth, then your details can be added to the waiting list on completion and return of the berthing form that will be sent to you as part of the New Member Welcome Pack.  You will then be contacted when a suitable berth becomes free.  If this is not acceptable to you then it is recommended that you enquire elsewhere to berth your boat.

We also offer limited dinghy storage on shore and have adopted a “Use it or Lose it” policy to ensure that our limited storage space is allocated to members who use their boats regularly whether it be for racing or purely recreational.  Consideration in allocating space is also given to the type of dinghy used; Optimists, Lasers, Dart 15s, Classic Flying Fifteens and Laser 2000s being among the preferred boats of the Dinghy Section.

Once received, your name will be published, for a period of two weeks, on our notice board for all members to read and it is at this stage that if anyone has any objections to your application then they will contact us.

Your application will then be passed on to me as Membership Secretary and I will contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time, usually in the evening, to meet at the Club to discuss your application. I will explain how the Club is run, the role of the Council of Management within the Club, and what is expected of you as a member. It is also important that your level of experience or inexperience on the water is also discussed and if needed, to improve your knowledge of boat handling etc, courses can be recommended, whether in-house or organised by reputable local organisations.

If appropriate, I will then recommend that your application be accepted at the next Council of Management meeting, held on the third Monday of every month. Sometimes the interview process can take up to eight weeks, depending upon the number of applicants waiting to be interviewed so please be patient you will be contacted as soon as possible.

This procedure may seem rather out-dated to any prospective new members but it must be remembered that we are a private members club and need to ensure that like-minded people join, in order to protect the groundwork laid down by our founder members to whom we owe a great debt as without their hard work our Club would not be as successful as it is today.  I look forward to meeting you soon.
